Giovanni Valentini’s family have had a strong connection to the land for generations. Today, together with his son Luca, daughter Chiara and son-in-law Lorenzo they continue the family’s tradition of producing wine and olive oil. Giovanni, who also speaks German, looks after guests and conducts wine dinners and tastings. Luca, trained in Enology, manages the production of the wines. Chiara uses her degree in Business Economics to manage the farm and suppliers, she also takes care of customers. Lorenzo uses his Agricultural Science studies to maintain the vineyards and olive trees.
The farm is located in the historic town of Massa Marittima in the province of Grosseto. Careful viticulture, combined with low environmental impact has enabled the family to achieve organic status. The winery produces wines in compliance with Tuscan traditions and the DOC Monteregio di Massa Marittima regulations.
The winery’s logo represents the poem “Odyssey” written by the ancient Greek poet Homer. Odysseus, the king of Ithaca takes 10 years to return home from the Trojan War, encountering the one-eyed cyclops, Polyphemus along the way. Polyphemus trapped Odysseus and his men in a cave. Odysseus devised an escape plan by plying Polyphemus with wine and blinding him with wooden stakes. The top of the logo represents the eye of the cyclops, keeping an eye on the wine production, the wooden stakes represent the olive trees on the estate. The bunch of grapes in the logo represents the wine, the acorn below represents the cork oak forest on the property and below that you see a glass of wines turned upside down representing the wine spilled by Polyphemus.
