The name Poggio Stenti refers to the harshness of farming life in the Montenero d’Orcia district. The Pieri family have grown their estate piece by piece, working hard over many years. Their 30 hectares of land is now occupied by vineyards, olive groves, wheat crops, saffron, pigs and cows. They built a man-made lake to provide water for irrigating the vines. They have also installed solar panels to provide electricity for the farm. Their commitment to sustainability has enabled them to achieve organic status.
The winery produces wines in compliance with Tuscan traditions and both the DOCG Montecucco and DOC Maremma Toscana regulations.
Eleonora Pieri organizes various wine tastings by appointment. The opportunity to taste their wines, accompanied by their olive oil, hams, salami and sausages while relaxing by the pool overlooking the rolling hills of the Val d’Orcia is not to be missed.
The family also own and operate a butcher shop in Sant’Angelo Scalo, close to Montalcino. Carlo Pieri breeds the animals himself on the farm, guaranteeing quality, excellent, organic meats.
